Iron Worker – Structural & Misc. Steel Erection
Location: Rochester, NY (out of town travel required)

As an Iron Worker, you will play a key role in completing critical projects on-site, utilizing your expertise to assemble and install fabricated structural steel components.
Position Summary
The Iron Worker is responsible for the installation, positioning, and securing of steel structures, beams, columns, and other components as part of the structural steel erection process. This position requires a combination of technical skill, safety awareness, and teamwork to ensure the successful completion of each project.
Key Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to understand project requirements.
- Assemble, align, and install structural steel components, including beams, columns, and other steel components.
- Operate heavy machinery such as lulls and hoists to lift steel components into place.
- Install bolts, rivets, and other fasteners to secure steel components.
- Perform welding and cutting tasks as needed.
- Ensure all work is completed in compliance with AISC, OSHA safety standards and local building codes.
- Work collaboratively with other team members and subcontractors to meet project deadlines.
- Maintain and inspect equipment and tools to ensure proper function and safety.
- Plan sequence of operation
- Set up face blocks, jigs and fixtures
- Locate and mark centerlines and reference points onto floor or face block and transpose them to workpiece
- Move/align parts into position
- Remove high spots and cut bevels
- Give direction to Arc Welder to build up low spots or short pieces with weld
- Straighten warped or bent parts
- Position or tighten braces, jacks, clamps, ropes or bolt straps or bolts parts in positions for welding or riveting
- Use transit to locate reference points and erect ladders and scaffolding to fit together large assemblies
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in structural steel erection (preferred), but candidates with less experience are encouraged to apply as we provide on-the-job training.
- Strong knowledge of iron-working techniques and safety protocols.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and technical drawings.
- Experience with rigging and cranes signaling, hoists, and other equipment.
- Physical stamina and the ability to work at heights and in varying weather conditions.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
- Lay out, position and secure parts & assemblies using clamps or jigs, etc.
- Remove rough spots, slag, etc., from work piece, using grinders, wire brush, hand file, etc.
- Inspect grooves, angles, or gap allowances and grind/prepare parts for welding
- Lift, move, transport steel parts using hand carts, overhead cranes and fork trucks
- Observe and follows all company safety rules and regulations
- Clean and maintain an orderly work area
- Good communication and basic math skills
- Work well with others, ensure quality of work, and meet scheduling demands
- Perform other miscellaneous tasks as directed by management
- Welding: MIG, TIG, Stick
- Organization: Employees to keep work areas organized, stocked, and machines in working order
- Communication: Able to communicate effectively
- Punctuality and Reliability: Able to show up on time ready to work
- Attention to Detail: Keen sense of design and aesthetic

- OSHA certification (preferred) or willingness to complete safety training.

- Must possess adequate sight, hearing and use of limbs for all aspects of job
- Able to work for periods of time while kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing steps as well as the ability to work from a ladder
- Must have the physical ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds up to 50% of the day.
- Must have the physical ability to carry hand tools and items weighing up to 20 pounds up to 95% of the day.
- Must have the physical ability to bend and stoop under obstacles as low as 3 feet up to 50% of the day.
- Must have the physical ability to climb over obstacles 2’ high up to up to 50% of the day.
- Must be able to stand and/or walk from location to location up to 95% of the day.
- Must be able to work in Hot and Cold environments
